Batten, and Arthur Rackham, to modern illustrators such as Jim Fitzgerald and Courtney Davis.. who are all wonderful artists - but all of them portrayed the stories and myths in a very sanitised romanticised way... There is much bloodshed, cruelty and warfare in the Ancient Irish myths yet in none of the illustrations do we see evidence of this... it is all very clean and 'idealised'.<br><br>Are there any artists who try to portray the myths more... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ This is not something you often see mentioned in Archaeological works but many of the manuscripts were printed on hemp paper, using natural inks many of which were carbon based (charcoal mixed with water or berry juice).  Why is there such a great 'forgetting' of the use of hemp in earlier times, just because the U.S.A. decided to ban such an important resource and ruined many good businesses in the thirties by doing so, does not mean that the rest of the world should be as short-sighted and... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ It is obvious that Ancient Ireland was a very rich country and had so much gold that most people could afford to have solid gold bracelets, ear-rings etc., While the chieftains and wealthy wore extremely heavy torcs, and gorget collars where did all this wealth go?<br>Although there are still some native irish gold mines the amount of gold produced is very limited compared to the amount that must have been around in ancient times. ]]></description>
